Bluffton boys drop Ada kickers


The boys’ football team Ada lost 8-2 at home to state-ranked Northwest Conference rival Bluffton on Tuesday night, Sept. 28, at War Memorial Stadium.

The Bulldogs fell to 3-5-3 on aggregate and 0-2-1 in the NWC with the loss. The Pirates, 10th Div. III state ranking, improved to 8-2 and 3-0 in the NWC with the victory.

The Pirates, six-time defending NWC champions, have won 33 league games in a row.

Kaden Basil scored the first goal after 40 seconds of the game thanks to an assist from Jude Spallinger. Nolan Hoffman then gave Bluffton a 2-0 lead with a 5:45 goal from Basil.

Hoffman then returned the favor by feeding Basil for the third goal at 19:47. Spallinger scored unassisted at 34:56 to extend the lead to 4-0.

Bryan Zimmerman made it 5-0 in intermission, scoring an assist with Basil with 4:01 left before half-time.

Ada junior Carter Conley put the hosts on the board with a goal just 36 seconds into the second half.

Spallinger scored 6:35 in the second stanza. Conley then scored another goal at 58:09 to bring the Bulldogs down to 6-2.

But pirate Justin Good scored from the penalty spot at 56:29. Good then scored again 4:01 later on an assist from Theo Andreas to provide the final margin of six.

Bluffton scored nine of his 25 shots on goal. Ada shot three of his seven shots on target.

Ada second-year goaltender Colton Long made eight saves in goal. Pirate keeper Eli Staton has been credited with two saves.

Bluffton is playing Riverdale (3-4-3) on Saturday October 2 at 6 p.m.
