Ethel A. Grogan, 90, of Northborough

Northborough – Ethel A. (Bourinot) Grogan passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 9, 2021; she was 90 years old and was the devoted wife of John “Jack” J. Grogan for 36 years until her own death in 1992.

Born in Waltham on December 5, 1931 and raised in Weston, Ethel was one of six children of David H. and Mary E. (Cotter) Bourinot. After graduation, Ethel worked as a records clerk with Raytheon Corporation. It was here that she met her colleague and future husband, Jack.

The couple settled in Waltham and started their family together. In 1961, Jack and Ethel moved to Northborough. Ethel has dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She was involved in her children’s lives and in many activities. She has always been there for her children and later, her grandchildren. A silent ear to listen, meaningful advice or just knowing that a prayer would be shared for you; Ethel would lovingly make a bad day better.

Ethel was a woman of deep devotion and a testament to her Catholic faith. After moving to Northborough, she and Jack joined St. Rose of Lima Parish. For many years, she was an active member, taught CCD, and used her divine talent in embroidery to create adornments for clergy clothing and baptismal stoles for infants in the ward. Eventually, Ethel would find her new church at St. Bernadette Parish and continue her ministry in beautiful baptismal stoles, one stitch at a time. She also volunteered tirelessly in the church as a Eucharistic minister, servant, CCD teacher, and helped in the church office. She attended mass daily and devoted herself sincerely to prayer.

Ethel’s survivors are his three sons, Stephen Grogan and his wife Linda of Douglas, Peter Grogan of Holden and John Grogan of Westborough; her four daughters, Maureen Gauvin of Northborough, Nancy Grogan and her fiance Bradford of Grafton, Roberta Kelly of Northborough and Mary Grogan of Marlborough, her ten grandchildren and three beloved great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Bourinot of Weston and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Michael Grogan; his son-in-law, William Gauvin and his siblings, Edward and David Bourinot, Loretta Lincoln and Bernice Wheeler.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Saturday December 18 at St. Bernadette Parish, 266 Main Street, Northborough, MA. 01532. In lieu of flowers, Ethel’s family respectfully requests that commemorative donations be made to the parish of Sainte-Bernadette.
