James F. Desmond 1942-2022 | News, Sports, Jobs

GIRARD — James F. Desmond, 80, died peacefully at his home on Saturday August 6, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.

Jimmy was born June 5, 1942 in Youngstown, the son of Thomas Desmond and Winifred Madden Desmond.

Jimmy had the greatest personality one could ever hope to meet – still the most vibrant life in the room. He’s been an independent contractor for nearly 50 years, so he’s met thousands of people, but it’s impossible to find anyone who has anything negative to say about him.

He was a Vietnam veteran and witnessed many tragedies in his life, but he never let that sour him. He was always smiling and laughing. Jimmy was a wonderful prankster and conversationalist. He loved talking ALMOST as much as he loved eating cookies and ice cream – and he loved those things A LOT.

Jimmy’s hobbies included fishing, bowling and slot machine winnings.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Erin Whitacre and his son-in-law, Fred de Girard; as well as his extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and a devoted circle of close friends. He will also be sadly missed by the brothers he bonded with during his wartime service – with whom he remained in contact throughout his life.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Rebecca L. (Stanford) Desmond, whom he married on August 14, 1976 and died on June 11, 2022. He was also predeceased by his seven older siblings .

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful round-the-clock care provided to Jimmy recently by Jodi’s Angels, as well as the help from Buckeye Hospice.

As per his wishes, there will be no services.
