KINGSFORD — James “Jim” Kersting, 71, of Kingsford died on April 4, 2022.

He was born on June 28, 1950 to Myron and Blanche Kersting in Sioux City, Iowa. His father was in the Air Force for 24 years and as a result, James attended schools in many places including Georgia, Texas, Iowa, Okinawa, and Michigan.

He graduated from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, and worked for 37 years as an open heart surgical perfusionist in Michigan, Minnesota, Idaho, Montana, Wisconsin and Newfoundland, more teaching and lecturing across the United States.

Jim was highly regarded in his profession for his kind and compassionate care. He enjoyed playing guitar, skiing and bird watching. He suffered two strokes in 2008 and 2009 in addition to having brain surgery due to the strokes. Following his strokes, he returned to Michigan where he resided at Evergreen Independent Living until his death.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Emily (Gideon) Ladd; and one brother, Gary Kersting.

His parents predeceased him; grandparents, John and Elizabeth Kersting and Clemens and Catherine Beierman; and a younger brother, Terry Lynn Kersting.

Due to her wishes, private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to benefit St. Labre Indian School in Montana.
