CALUMET – Linda Susannah Roe, 77, of Calumet, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at the Gardenview Calumet Assisted Living Center.

She was born on May 7, 1944 to the late Adam D. and Daria (Lukachick) Monik in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She then moved with her parents to Lansing, Illinois, where she graduated from high school.

She was brought up as a member of the Russian Orthodox Catholic Church and loved to sing in the choir.

She has dedicated her life to the field of nursing.

Graduated from Mount Sinai School of Nursing (later changed to IJ Goldberg School of Nursing) with a nursing degree in 1976, College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois, Bachelor of Science, Professional Arts (Dean’s List) in 1979, George Williams College, Downers Grove, Illinois, Master of Science in Administration and Organizational Behavior, 1983, Certified Nurse Administrator, Advanced American Nurses Association, 1984.

Prior to retiring, she was a strong advocate for patients and continually considered their importance, which maintained a healthy outlook towards all aspects of her career in the healthcare industry.

She has spent her career in many roles such as: Staff Nurse, ICU Head Nurse, Staff Development Instructor, Director of Nursing and Assistant Administrator most recently at Portage View Hospital. , Hancock. She has been an active member of nursing and executive associations wherever employed, including: Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois, Englewood Hospital, Chicago, Rockford Memorial Hospital, Rockford, Illinois, and Portage View Hospital, Hancock.

She was predeceased by her mother and father and sister, Elizabeth Sommer.

She is survived by her brother, Gregory (Karen) Monik; her brother-in-law, Allan Sommer and she is the aunt, great-aunt and great-great-aunt of 34 nieces and nephews whom she has truly loved and celebrated all her life.

A special thank you, she wished, to her next door neighbors Edith and Bill, and to many wonderful friends.

A future commemorative celebration will take place.
