MONTEREY COUNTY – Monterey County Free Libraries has many resources to help students start school this month. From helpful print and online resources to useful supplies for school projects, students can also receive online help with schoolwork with Brainfuse HelpNow. Elementary through middle school students can log in from any internet-connected computer or mobile device for homework help. On the MCFL webpage, look under “Children/Teens” and click on “Homework Centers” to find “Live Homework Help, where students can connect with a real online tutor who can help them do their duties. The service operates 7 days a week all year round, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.


KING CITY — The high school football regular season kickoff begins with the South County Jamboree on Friday, Aug. 19 at King City High School. The four local teams of King City, Greenfield, Soledad and Gonzales will face off in the jamboree, which kicks off at 7pm at War Memorial Stadium.


SOLEDAD – The City of Soledad is accepting applications to fill a vacant position on the City Council, which will be by special appointment. The resident named to the position will serve for the remainder of the term of the vacated seat, or until November 2024. The board is expected to make the appointment at a special public meeting scheduled for August 30 at 5:30 p.m. Applicants may obtain applications at City Hall, 248 Main St., during regular business hours, or visit the website to submit an application online.
