LANG, Shawn 65, of Hartford, CT (formerly of Norfolk, MA), a proud mother, passionate advocate for justice and in love with Boston’s friends, music and sports teams, passed away suddenly on October 17, 2021. She was born in Norfolk, MA on February 5, 1956, daughter of Herbie and Pat (Cashen) Lang. Shawn graduated from King Philip in 1974. Shawn has spent his entire career advocating for people living with HIV and AIDS, the LGBTQ community, as well as opioid addicts, survivors of domestic violence and those in need. housing insecurity. As a staff member and volunteer, she worked tirelessly for state and federal programs, policies and laws that provided services and protections to those in need. For the past thirty years, Shawn has worked as Deputy Director of Advancing CT Together (ACT). She has served on the board of directors of the National AIDS Housing Coalition and the Center for Interdisciplinary AIDS Research at Yale University. She served on the CT Alcohol and Drug Policy Council and founded the Statewide Opiate Overdose Prevention Workgroup. In 2017, Shawn was honored to the White House as a Champion of Change for the Advancement of Prevention, Treatment and Recovery. When not advocating for rights in the state Capitol and Congress halls, Shawn found herself socializing with her family and many friends, playing guitar on First Friday music nights, cheering her on. Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and UConn Huskies, and vacations in P-Town. But his dedication to the causes of justice and equality was only surpassed by his unbounded dedication to his son, Corbett Lang, of Hartford, CT. He brought her the greatest love, joy and pride, and Shawn treasured their time together. In addition to his son, Corbett, Shawn is survived by siblings Heidi Cronin and husband Mike of Norfolk MA, Gretchen Lang of Margate, FL, and Tiger Lang of Bennington, VT, Tricia Barry and husband Charles of Wrentham , MA and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Shawn’s family is deeply and eternally grateful to the many friends, colleagues and fellow advocates of Shawn who have provided love and support to him during his remarkable and defining life, and who have shared his commitment to justice and justice. ‘equality.
