Suicide Awareness Walk scheduled for July 24 | News, Sports, Jobs

LOCK HAVEN – Eagle Scout and mental health awareness advocate Ashton Peters will host the 3rd Annual Walk for Suicide Awareness in memory of Cimarron and Benjamin Thomas on July 24 at Riverview Park in Lock Haven.

Ashton’s goal for the walk is to raise community awareness of a growing global issue. The walk is in memory of Cimarron Thomas, who lost his life just over three years ago at the age of 12; and Benjamin Thomas, Cimarron’s father, who also committed suicide a year later. Benjamin Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran and sergeant.

Ashton works closely with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide; and 22-Too Many, a Maryland-based organization that honors and remembers service members who have lost their lives to suicide or PTS at the rate of more than 20 a day.

The public is encouraged to attend the event to raise awareness about suicide. Various vendors and organizations are participating in the walk this year.

Ashton has high hopes of raising $5,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

New for March 2022 is a dunk tank. You will have the opportunity to Dunk PA State, Rep. Stephanie Borowicz. The cost is $5 per chance.

A silent auction will also take place with special speakers, games and music. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All money raised will be given to a representative of the AFSP on the day of the walk.

T-shirts for the event can be purchased at Rachel K. Creations or on walk day.
