Area veterans are invited to attend the free annual Yankee Homecoming Veterans Luncheon on Tuesday.

The Veterans Luncheon has been hosted during Yankee Homecoming for the past 12 years and was started and managed by Korean War veteran Frank Ventura.

“Our veterans are our own national treasures,” said Haverhill resident and Yankee Homecoming Committee member Donald Jarvis. “Whether they recently returned or during World War II where the oldest veterans are from, we thank our veterans for their service and it is an honor for us to host this lunch for them.

This year, Italian cuisine from Giuseppe’s Fresh Pasta & Fine Food will be served with a meat and vegetable option and an assortment of desserts.

The Veterans Luncheon takes place Tuesday, August 2 from 12:00 to 2:00 at Hope Community Church, 11 Hale St., Newburyport. Besides Yankee Homecoming, sponsors include Fairway Mortgage and Sgt. Jordan Shay Memorial Foundation.

Newburyport Director of Veterans Services Kevin Hunt, a Navy and Vietnam veteran, is master of ceremonies with Joe Byron, president and founder of Honor Flight New England, as special guest speaker. The guest of honor is US Marine veteran Dominic Marcellino.

Veterans are welcome to bring a guest with them and are encouraged to pre-register by calling and leaving a message at: 978-308-9186. Volunteers are also welcome and can register online at yankeehomecoming.com/volunteer.
