Vietnamese vet and volunteers help revitalize the town of Franklin

FRANKLIN – Former elected official and Vietnam veteran Skip Hebert tells us that he loves the town of Franklin so much that he has decided to launch an initiative to revitalize the town he has always loved.

Hebert says he worked alongside volunteers in beautifying the city.

An idea came to him during pandemic containment, he says.

“My idea was to pressure wash it, make it cleaner, so when we could go out it would feel clean so people would feel safe to go out and go to businesses.”

Hébert would clean up the whole town if he could, he said.

“There is a lot going on here and we want people to know that when they go through here they notice the sidewalks, they will notice this fence, they will notice different things that I intend to do and at all times. . to help me i am not hard to find you will see me working somewhere.

In addition to his initiative, officials say 30 businesses opened during the pandemic and 20 dilapidated properties were demolished.

Franklin Mayor Eugene Foulcard said the city had received $ 4.2 million as part of the US bailout to improve water pipes, water filters, pumping stations and to fix problems. infrastructure issues.

Foulcard also says he’s grateful for Hebert’s revitalization efforts and says it’s part of making the community a better place.

“I am eternally grateful for him and his efforts and his group of volunteers who have helped him on a number of different projects. They know we appreciate this energy from Franklin and the things we are doing to make a difference, and we can do it little by little. “

“It’s the beginning, not the end,” said Hébert.

Hebert says he will revitalize the whole town if he can, welcome more volunteers to the area, and encourage neighboring towns to do the same.

The town of Franklin won the revitalization award this summer from La Municipal’s 94th annual conference.
